From the time we're kids we're told that the boys restroom is for the boys and the girls restroom is for the girls. Boys don't go in the girls restroom and girls don't go in the boys restroom. Later, we were told that the boys locker room is for the boys and the girls locker room is for the girls. Boys don't go in the girls locker room and girls don't go in the boys locker room. So why is it that when we become adults we can go into any locker room we want? Oh, wait, you mean we can't? So why did I see a woman in the men's locker room after the football game the other night?
Apparently the worlds of media and the NFL have not gotten the message that the mens locker room is just for men. Just take the recent example of Miss Ines Sainz who was in the Jets locker room after their Monday night loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Let's get something straight. A football team's locker room is most assuredly a mens locker room. Last time I checked there were no women in the NFL. So why was a female reporter in the locker room in the first place? Well, she is by far not the first one to be in a football team's locker room and she will not be the last. The problem is that when Miss Sainz was in the locker room with over 40 half-naked men she was the focal point of some crude remarks. Unbelievable, isn't it? Shocking.
Let's see, a young, attractive woman wearing a tight miniskirt and a low-cut blouse and 40 or so half-naked men. What do you think is going to happen? Keep in mind these players are physical specimens that are most likely producing more testosterone than the average man. Plus, they just finished a disappointing game. On top of that, each one of them is probably looking forward to getting home to their wife, girlfriend or whatever just to have sexual relations with them. Add Miss Sainz to that mix and your going to get some remarks.
Just my opinion here, but the best way to avoid these situations is to just not allow women into the team's locker room. There is plenty of time to interview the players before they leave the field or when they have their press conference after the game. Why do they need to be in the locker room? If women think it's not fair that their male press counterparts are allowed in then fine, don't allow any press into the locker room.

More Horrible Officiating
Well Bear fans, you guys got lucky. If it hadn't been for a ridiculous rule the Lions would have (and should have) won the game. The rule basically says that a receiver has to have possession of the ball from the first time he touches it all the way through until the play comes to a stop. Well, the only problem with that, in this case, is that there is also a rule that says once the ball breaks the plane of the goal line and is in possession of a player it is a touchdown. So, which rule takes precedence over the other?
Calvin Johnson clearly was in possession of the football from the moment it touched his hands until he let go of it on the ground. Yes, I said let go of it, because that's what he did. He didn't lose control of it, he let go of it after he realized he had scored. He was using the ball to get up off the ground and then let go of it because he realized he had just scored the winning touchdown. No problem, right? Well the booth reviewed it and made the decision that his actions violated this ridiculous rule. Wrong! Bad call! Boooooo!
Calvin Johnson's nickname is Megatron because he is so strong. There are very few people who could rip that ball out of his hands. He is super strong and showed it by grasping the football with his one monstrous hand. He is a stud of an athelete. He had no problem keeping possession of that football. The officials unfortunately didn't see it that way.
Was it a bad decision to use the football to get up? Yes. Was it a bad decision to leave it on the turf? Yes. Did the officials make the right call in overturning the touchdown? No way! In any NFL season prior to this one, that would've been a touchdown. Why is the NFL making it more difficult to enjoy the game? Why are they coming up with these ridiculous rules that slow the game down and have huge impacts on individual games? The NFL is driving itself into the ground with these rules. Just let them play.
Until next time . . .

U-Dub-Dub
As an alumni of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater I have been very happy to see the performance of the school's football team over the past few seasons. They have appeared in the national championship game each of the last five seasons winning two of them including last season. As the No. 1 ranked team in NCAA Division III, they further cemented themselves as a D3 powerhouse with a 70-7 thumping of Dakota State. Go Warhawks!
I love seeing small schools do so well. Speaking of which, a surprising thing happened today in college football. At the time of posting of this article, five Division I FCS schools (formerly Division I-AA) defeated Division I FBS schools (formerly Division I). This includes Virginia Tech, the No. 13 team in the nation, losing to James Madison! You've got to be kidding me. V-Tech was considered by many to be a dark horse for the national championship. I think they fell off the horse and got trampled by it. What a joke! It is great to see smaller schools not only taking on but beating the bigger schools, but it even further proves that rankings by the "experts" mean nothing. Anything can happen in football which is what makes it such a great game.

Football Baby!
Football is back! Woohoo! I love all kinds of sports from basketball to golf to bowling, but my true love in sports has to be football. I love every level of football from junior tackle to the pros. Right now I'm watching West Virginia make a fool of themselves playing Marshall University. Last week Marshall got slaughtered by Ohio State so West Virginia could be in for a disappointing season. Last night I saw Brett "the Dreamsmasher" Favre lose to the Saints once again. Aww, what a shame.
Since the Chicago Cubs and the Milwaukee Brewers are done for the year, football is a welcome respite from the disappointment that is being a Cubs and Brewers fan. After the years they had last year I figured to be looking at a playoff run for at least one of the teams. I guess I'll have to fall back on the Cubs fans' motto, "There's always next year."
Marshall just scored again. Marshall 21, WVU 9 - Pathetic. The Mountaineers are going to have a long season.
Many of you know that I am a Green Bay Packer fan. Yeah, yeah, get all your snide remarks and comments out of the way. Throughout the life of this blog I will try to be impartial and not rub it in too much to the throngs of Bear fans that are out there. Oh wait, Chicago does still have a team, right? Sorry, just had to say that. Seriously, though, this will not be a Packer centric blog. I will discuss any and all sports, any and all teams, any and all athletes. I'm open to anything, so please comment and let me know what you want to talk about. Until next time. . .
